Remember when Spain won the 2010 World Cup in South Africa? You probably remember images of celebrations in Spain. The streets of Madrid were saturated with cheering fans, seemingly elated about the Iberian nation’s first-ever World Cup trophy.
No fountain in Madrid was safe.
But it turns out, all of these images were lies, because Spain never won the World Cup.
According to former Manchester United legend and performance artist Eric Cantona, Catalonia won the World Cup. Speaking in Shanghai at a press conference ahead of the Laureus Awards, Cantona said: “Catalonia won the World Cup. Spain won it with ten Barcelona players in the team. Spain did not win the World Cup, Catalonia did. Barcelona won it.”
And there you have it. Congrats, Catalonia.
But Cantona wasn’t finished with his exhibition. Sharing his thoughts on the best player in the world, he told the world:, “For me, the best player in the world is Javier Pastore.” Eight-two percent less instance, Cantona also said Manchester United would win next year’s Premier League.
But before you lose your mind, listen to the man. He isn’t as crazy as some might lead you to believe. Sure, he’s kind of crazy, just not as crazy as often presented.
