Reading went into its FA Cup semifinal knowing it would need a couple brilliant performances if the team was to beat Arsenal and advance to the final. It is, after all, a middling Championship club, at its best. The team hasn’t even competed for promotion to the Premier League this season, and it was going up against one of the top England’s best.
For over 100 minutes, however, Royals’ goalkeeper Adam Federici was brilliant. He was everything Reading needed. The 30-year-old Australian made a slew of phenomenal saves to keep his team level, 1-1, and its hopes of silverware alive into extra time. He was Reading’s hero.
And then one play changed it all.
That is so cruel. It’s not fair. Stop it.
Federici’s amazing play was wiped out in a single moment. He did everything right, kept Reading even and gave them a chance. Then, in extra time, that happened, and Arsenal went in front, 2-1.
That proved to be the winning goal.
Someone give this man a hug.
