The Dopeness: Manchester United gets a limited-edition sneaker from adidas

Look deep into the distance with your mind’s eye. In terms of style, when you picture a Manchester United fan, do you imagine someone who routinely shops online for custom kicks? Of course not. You envision the quintessential Premier League fan archetype: track jacket, jeans and “trainers,” quite possibly a person that never even actually wears team gear.

That image is what makes these new sneakers, The Stretford by adidas, such a great fit for the Red Devils masses. A clean, subdued look that lets you claim your team without looking like the sort of person who goes on for hours and hours about how great the Class of ’92 was, even though you’re obviously too young to remember them in their prime.

The Stretford—named after the famous Stretford End supporters’ section of Old Trafford—will be limited to a run of only 1,200 pairs worldwide, and will be the footwear compliment to adidas’ special line of 1985-themed jerseys, sweatshirts, and jackets.

adidas has been pretty secretive about revealing the shoe’s full design, or telling fans how or when they can try to grab a pair. To get info on The Stretford’s release, they’ve encouraged people to join a campaign with Manchester United, which will supposedly “get you closer to the club”—whatever that means.
