Rand Paul, 2016 Presidential Hopeful?

Rand Paul has long been considered a contender for the 2016 Republican presidential nomination.

When asked if he’s been taking that buzz seriously, he said he’s taking things slowly.

“We had some discussions with my family and with advisors about it,” Paul told Fusion’s Jorge Ramos on Tuesday. “It will probably take us at least a year to come to a final conclusion.”

The Kentucky senator is among the leading candidates in early polls. Paul narrowly led a number of potential candidates – including Marco Rubio, Ted Cruz, Paul Ryan, Chris Christie, and Jeb Bush – according to an October Quinnipiac University poll.

Paul told Ramos that his appeal stems from some of the different positions he’s staked out from his GOP colleagues.

“I think a lot of the ideas I talk about – privacy, criminal justice reform – those are things that could appeal to a lot of people but we haven’t made a decision yet,” he said.
