This Brazilian Athlete Wins the World Cup of Our Hearts

When he was 8 years old, Raphael Nishimura was diagnosed with muscular dystonia and could barely move. In 2007 at the urge of a co-worker he started rock climbing to get some exercise. It helped him improve his motor skills, plus it was a lot of fun. So much fun, and Raphael became so good, that he started rock climbing professionally in international competitions.

In 2012, he overcame his disability to become Brazil’s national champion in paraclimbing and won second place at the International Federation of Sport Climbing (IFSC) paraclimbing world championships.
