In a surprising move, Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers dropped high profile, off-season signing Mario Balotelli to the bench for today’s visit from West Brom in favor of a man who goes by “Rickie” (instead of the more acceptable “Rick,”, “Richard,” or even “Ricky”).
Take what you know about Super Mario, then let that sink in. Rodgers put Liverpool’s striking responsibilities in the hands of Rickie Lambert under the guise of squad rotation.
As you’ll note from the photo, above, Balotelli doesn’t look very impressed. He would soon start warming up.
Thankfully, for Liverpool fans, Lambert’s services weren’t required over the first 45 minutes, as the half’s only goal came from the boot of Adam Lallana following a nifty exchange with Jordan Henderson 2.0.
Balotelli is still warming up.
