Walking while trans: the new crime in Arizona?

CHST Banner

This year, LGBT activist and Arizona State student Monica Jones had her November conviction on Prostitution charges overturned on appeal. Jones claimed that she had accepted an offer of a ride home from a Phoenix undercover police officer in May 2013.

She was arrested for “manifesting prostitution,” a statue her attorneys would successfully argue is “unconstitutionally vague.”

Fusion’s Molly Crabapple explained it all here:

So we traveled to Phoenix to meet Jones herself, as well as several others who told us what it’s like to be a trans woman in the desert city. Getting picked up by police officers for simply not conforming to gender stereotypes has led the LGBT community to give a nickname to the alleged crime: “walking while trans.”
