Fusion's Jorge Ramos on what he learned covering the 2016 race

Ten years after Katrina, cities near New Orleans struggle with an eroding coast

Iconic places like Jackson Square come to mind when remembering Hurricane Katrina but many of Louisiana’s problems since the devastating storm are still being felt along the coastline. Since the storm hit ten years ago, 100 square miles of wetlands have vanished. Residents of coastal towns such as Dulac are worried for its future as the effects of Katrina continue to be felt.

Scientists are working to rebuild the coast with fresh water diversions but not everyone thinks that’s the answer. With the coast eroding faster than the new land can be built, the state is in a race against time.

America with Jorge Ramos airs Tuesdays at 10 P.M. EST on Fusion
