Alessia Cara admits being famous can be so awkward

Alessia Cara, the Canadian YouTube sensation turned pop star (who also just announced the release of her first album), got honest with Fusion’s Alicia Menendez about the ups and downs on the road to fame.

She said there have been moments where she’s felt uncomfortable in social situations—like the kind she sings about in her hit song, “Here”—even though she feels so outgoing when performing on stage.

“I become this small, vulnerable, weird person that I’m not really, so it’s just weird,” she said.

But the path to success has also brought exciting opportunities like an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, and performing at the recent Tidal X concert with artists like Nick Jonas, Beyoncé, and Niki Minaj.

Not too bad for a 19-year-old who’s only just begun.
