Cornell William Brooks, president and CEO of the NAACP, is asking the next president to do three things: tackle Islamophobia, stand up for the Voting Rights Act, and take on the prison-industrial complex. “When you have 2.3 million Americans behind bars,” he says, “that is a waste of human capital, a waste of our humanity, and it is a collective scar on the American psyche and soul.”
