Fusion’s Mariana Atencio spoke to House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi during the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia. The outspoken former House Speaker told Atencio that the revelations following the DNC email dump were “unacceptable” but that “steps will be taken” to ensure it never happens again. She cited Chairperson Debbie Wasserman Schultz stepping down as the first step in the process.
Pelosi admitted she has always been against the DNC’s involvement “in the politics of who the candidate is,” and said the organization should instead focus on registering voters and voter turnout ahead of an election. She said the party needs more transparency and more participation from young people, and that Bernie Sanders “deserves a tremendous amount of credit because he as awakened that political engagement among young people.”
